Default Are the K&N Filters worth the extra money?

The instructions on the K&N states to remove the pre-filter? Is that something you have ingnored to get better benefit or your filter instructions never pointed out removing the pre-filter?

I always run the pre-filter/nylon mesh screen on my atv, catches a great deal of the dust when out riding. Us Jungle Jake to clean it, comes clean very easily

Is the K&N really doing anything more.........With the pre-filter on??
The pre-filter is trapping the dust and dirt(larger particles) then the smaller stuff (main filter)should be catching the very fine particles...If there is a K&N under the pre-filter is the fine stuff being caught?
They claim they have more airflow..So to me the fine stuff will get through..........Caper

I would disagree with the fine particles getting through, the pre-filter seems to catch the debris on my riding, and that includes dust up here in Iron Ore Country. Put 2K on last year on my '07 POO 800X2, decided in August to take the motor out of the frame, do to hitting a Rock, and cracking the Aluminum Oil Pan about 2". Had a solid Aluminum welder weld the pan up from the inside out. While I had the motor on the bench, I decided to pop the top and look everything over; and to my surprise, pistons and cylinder Nickysal was in all most perfect condition, and that is riding in some of the dirtiest conditions know to the ATV rider. I do clean the K&N filter, and filter every other ride, unless the pre-filter is gummed up. A paper filter does not/will not last more than a ride or two up here, so why spend the money one one, when you can clean a K&N and pre-filter at will, spray with grease, and go again and again?

More airflow= less restriction in my book.........Anyway that's just my view......

Nothing is better than paper for protection.(again my view)
Yes, your right about the paper not lasting as long .....But I would rather have the full protection.

I had oil saturate my paper oem air filter (still trying to figure that issue out) therefore I need to replace it.

Are the K&N filters worth the money?

Do they affect performance?

If oil hits them can they still be cleaned?</end quote></div>

knezz,

You need to get to the bottom of the problem with the significant amount of oil getting in the oil box, or it won't matter what filter you choose, as something is wrong?

Did you/do you roll the quad over or on it's side frequently?
Is the breather blocked?
Is there too much oil in the quad?

On a side note, I see your "Recon" avatar. Are you/were you a Recon Marine?

If so, Semper Fi from an "old" Recon Marine.

Simply put, if it lets in more air, it lets in more dirt !
