Default Trashed 400 bottom end, Help

Ok, So my buddie buys a 96-02?? scrambler 400,and gets fooked!. I can provide vin or codes, if anyone can tell me what year this bike is.

After pulling off the clutch cover I find out that the bottom end is trashed! Like crunch crunch! I cannot turn this crank more than a 1/8th turn, with the plug pulled.
I will be pulling the engine and splitting that biotch today. Hopefully the cases are not trashed and its just bearings....

I have found a few Bearing kits on.... Ebay.. Along with a few really bad looking cranks.. But... any advice?

My Question is.. Does anyone know where to get a complete or bottom end, engine?

I have looked at the AAEN kits, figure if I must rebuild the entire setup, might aswell go bigbore, while rebuilding this bottom end..
Are there any better, or cheaper kits??

Basicly I'm looking for advice on this bike, as its my 1st polaris build.
I do not know where to look to find the good deals..

first thing i would do is wait until you get it apart to see just how much damage is done and then go from there to see if its worth putting the money into it or maybe get a differnt engine instead. my .02
