Default dealer cost to replace cam?

Well the cam is shot on my 1998 Sportsman 500. I have called three local dealers and have gotten really different prices. Dealer 1 wants $450 out the door parts and labor. Dealer 2 wants $530 out the door parts and labor, Now dealer 3 wants $640 + parts!! I think the price of $450 seems alittle to good to be true. I know we have some people who turn wrenches at dealerships, just curious what the going rate is?

Default dealer cost to replace cam?

How is $450 to good. if the parts are $238 and they work for $70 an hour like our dealers do thats works out to 3 hours labor. I think a person who works on ATV for a living can do a cam change in 3 Hours easily.

Default dealer cost to replace cam?

Parts - $238.00
Manual - $50.00
Doing the job yourself - Priceless

I'll just wait for that advertising check from Visa now.

Seriously though, have you considered doing the job yourself?

the cheapest per hour price for the dealerships around here is $118 an hour!

I have thought about doing it myself and may just endup doing that, but time is an issure for me. I am in college and go to school monday-friday and work friday-sunday. School is an hour and a half away fom the quad.....
I wanted the quad to be ready to ride for the spring...

118 bucks an hour?!

Geez, I'd consult with the local police department. Prostitution is illegal, and it's sounds like they're screwing ya there.

I can understand if time is an issue, and wanting to ride soon. But dang that rate would have me taking it to school and work to get it fixed.
