500 X2 and Sand dunes
#11
I rode my 700X2 up this a couple weeks ago (it's taller than it looks and pure, soft sand):

I was surpised at how well it did in the sand for such a heavy machine. I run ITP Terracross tires though, not Mudlites.
Running up and down the sandy trails was a blast. It definitely takes a toll on your fuel mileage.
Here I am on the way down. My daughter was too slow on the trigger to get a shot going up:

Well, that's more like it reno82! Makes me feel better anyway. I'll just air down and go for it! I did have a suggestion from someone to turn my rear mudlites around for the trip, they said it works better in the sand that way, but I don't know. I'm not lookin to be fast, I just want to have fun!</end quote></div>
I've ridden mine in the dunes with no problems. I haven't attempted any crazy hill climbs, though. I leave that for the predator! LOL!
I have been told to reverse the mudlites for better traction, too. Funny you said that. I never have as I thought they were messing with me! LOL! If you try it let us know how it turns out!

Thanks guys, I feel better about going now. I'm going to turn my tires around and give it a try, I've been told that by a couple of people now. I'll let everyone know how that turns out.
I'm going with about 20 other guys from town here, and some of the others ride utility bike also, although the majority have Razors, Rhinos, or sport quads.
I really can't wait!

I went out to Mescalero Dunes a couple weeks ago. Didn't take my camera to get some pics but her are a couple of the area w/ the truck. I'll have to remember the camera next time.

You can see in the first pic how wet the sand was. Good rain the day before. But it has been drier than hell lately. It was three months for this area til 2 weeks ago. Last time was late 1800's it was like this. I definately was not going as fast as the quads out there but had plenty of speed for me.

when my distant family rides with me they have Ute bike and they do ok (I use there's while they chat and I like it because it's a challenge to make it up some hills) the two things they do that make it work a lot better is reverse the tread (what I need by that is take the driver side tire and put it on the pass side and vice versa) and run low low psi like 1 maybe 2 psi what I do is have them sit on the bike and let out the air tell it looks low not flat but low

You will have no issues. I run stock tires in 2wd on my 800 Touring in blow sand. If I have to stop in the deep stuff I switch it to 4 hi and then go back to 2 hi when moving. I also do this with 2 passengers.
I think you will be happily surprised at how well it will do. Airing down may help you but I would try standard pressures first.
