I need help with fixing my fuel problem. I left my Sportsman in storage all last summer in a storage building, and last week I saw my Sportsman for the first time and the first thing I noticed was the plastic gas can I had stored next to it had expanded like balloon, a result of expansion from the high temperature inside the building.
The battery was dead but I was able to charge it. As I tried to crank it I found that the gas was all gone. I put some gas in it but when I cranked it fuel started to fall on the floor of the building. I found that it was running out of the carburator overflow line. It cranked but white smoke just poured out of the exhaust. I ran it just enough to get it out of the building and a few times after that but fuel just continued to come out of the carb overflow. I cheched the oil and it was black and smelled of fuel. I covered it up and left it alone.
Any help on getting my Sportsman back running would be appreciated.

your carb is gummed up from sitting. need to take it off and clean it up real good. you also need to change the oil because of the fuel. it filled up because of the carb not shutin fuel off and it is flowing into the cylinder past the rings down into the oil. happens all the time. nothing to worry about and its not a hard fix

its going to take a througho cleaning to get it right again. seafoam is good for a carb that is still running right but might have some slight clogging somewhere. shouldnt be too hard to get the carb off. i would definatly invest in a service manual or find one to download before embarking on that adventure tho. would hate for you to get stuck and have no where to turn to fast to get the carb back together.

the choke cable should just unscrew(i think a 12 mm) and slides the plunger right out. the throttle cable should be able to (w/ slack ion the cable)to open the throttle to full and while holding the cable from turning w/ it be able to rotate backwards and slide out of the holder its sitting in. i think this is how it should come out. someone correct me if im mistaken.
