carb vs. efi

now i'll start off by saying it is a battery issue(dealer not doing correct charging when new) as mucu as i hate carbs. the seasons first star up after sitting almost 6 months and when i hit the key for the 800 as always in about 2 to 3 seconds it starts up and idles perfect. on the other hand the stupid carbed 400 (had to hand start, good thing its there) as always 2 yesrs in arow doent like to stay running when its started. dont get me wrong it will start but when you have to babysit the damn thing its getting old. guess there might be a new bike in mommas future that WILL be an EFI. ok done venting lol.

When you only keep a Quad a few years I would say (IMO) E.F.I. for sure.......
But in my case I want to keep mine for a long time ....I picked the Carb models(I don't mind baby-sitting...LOL..LOL)
I worked on Sleds and know the carb/EFI trouble-shooting for the do it yourself repairs..
What would you do if the 800 EFI didn't start up as easy as you said?
Thanks ...Caper..........

You guys are lucky to be able to ride around home. I have to travel to ride, and a lot of times it's at altitude. Riding in Colorado we start at 9000' and sometimes end up at 12000, not a place for a carb bike unless you do your own jetting. I love the EFI both for altitude and slow steep climbs where constant fuel delivery is a must.

That is the key right there..with either..you have to know how to troubleshoot it..I venture to say the EFI troubleshooting skills that alot of people don't have is what causes some to despise EFI..
I've said it many times the biggest problem with EFI on an ATV is the lack of understanding exactly how it works.
Truth be known there are very few component/sensor failures that will cause an EFI bike to not run at all..and of those even fewer are not also present on an carb'ed bike...
Regarless of all that the EFI has a few advantages on it's side ..so no matter how good you are at tuning a carb it will still be at a disadvantage.. one big one is better fuel atomization.

just to set the record straight i could easy trouble shoot the carb and w/ a manual specs the efi as well. its just hard to beat the performance and reliablity of an efi bike and my sleds the same way over the wifes carbed. someday efi will totally take over everything imo and will be less isues as it gets better. my car set for the same amount of time and guess what in 3 seconds it started as well. for me i love my efi vechicles. imo

I will never ever go back to a carb model of anything if I can at all, the first year I took that hawkeye unting the darn thing started up and ran a few seconds and then wouldnt start at all, after awhile it finally gave up and started, But Ive always owned scoots with carbs, Not anymore they are just aggravators to me.

I have a carb model, and don't mind it at all. Yes, sometimes you have to baby sit it for a minute or two at times. I'm also mechanically inclined enough to trouble shoot it, or an EFI machine for that matter.
When I bought mine, there was a $1000 difference between mine and the EFI (EFI had some other goodies too). I simply didn't want to spend the extra money until I knew how this ATV'ing stuff was going to work out. Anyhow, my next one will be an EFI... no matter how long I intend to keep it.
Keeping the injectors clean is half the battle.
