Default 05 Sportsman Shows Overheating

I have a 05 Sportsman 500 HO that the instrument cluster shows is "HOT" even when the ATV has just been sitting in the barn since the day before so I know it's not hot. One thing that is odd to me is that the fan does not come on, I would think if the ATV thinks it is hot the fan would come on. I read some other posts that sounded similar except that their fans were coming on. Another issue is I can't seem to keep my battery charged. Don't know if that is related or if the battery just needs replaced since it is 4 years old. By the way, the ATV runs normally. Anyone have any ideas or recomendations?? Thanks!!!!!

There was a large recall done on many years and Polaris models of the ECM. I'd check out if the recall to your ECM pertains to you.

Yep ecm same thing on my 05 600 but mine was covered by warranty just after i bought it. Your battery also might be getting weak i had to replace mine about 2 mos ago.

Thanks for the reply's. I will call my Polaris Dealer and see what they say. I think I already had the recall done several years ago. Hopefully they will still waranty it since they know their has been a problem with them??

Caper, Is replacing the ECM something you can do yourself or would you recommend a dealer do it??
