Default 99 scrambler stator

i had a washer fall off the stater motor and get in between the flywheel and the stator, mech. said it was toast, and said thats was stopping it from starting. is that possible? thought the stator acted like a alernater to charge the battery. would it stop it from starting?

stator also provides the juice to fire the spark plug. there is a way to test the stator to see if its the culprit but i do no t have the instructions with me. maybe someone can post them for you.

Here's the deal, I had 3 of those '99 Scrambler 400 4x4's, and toasted a stator too. Got to get that guy on e-bay to rebuild the stator for you, I believe if you pull up RMSTATOR is his handle, he will be able to put you back in the saddle. Then when your done, PM me, I got some really trick ideas for that unit, that will make 800's look sick!!
