Second thoughts on Rotopax tank mounting
#11
I just bought 1 of those Rotopax gas tanks as well and I also have the front storage box on my 850 like Ruggo has on his machine. I really don't want to use their mounting system so I will try to come up with a way to attach the Rotopax to my front storage box for rides where I need it and remove on shorter rides where I won't have to carry it along. Suggestions welcomed!

What if one bought the one gallon packs instead of the two , would they fit inside the front storage box just a idea . I have a odd shaped gas can thats designed for the back of my Ski-Doo Rev it fits inside my rear semi- hard bag with lots of room to spare .

I’ve been thinking about this and I guess I have an easy workable solution. So mounting the tanks in the back is not a good thing especially when climbing some of the steep hills around New England and they interfere with the rear cargo box latches. I like the look but not functional. With the lock and ride cargo boxes and front rack I have flexibility so that depending on where I am riding I can setup the quad as needed.
So local rides when no extra fuel or equipment is needed I prefer to not have the big rear cargo box mounted so it stays home and I can just have the front cargo box which has plenty of room for storage on short rides and no extra fuel required. Then on long rides I swap the front cargo box off and put the front rack/extension on which has the brackets mounted for the fuel tanks so I can carry well secured extra fuel and other items strapped up front and put the rear cargo box on so that on the longer rides I can store plenty in the back and have extra fuel up front. I think that will work pretty good for me and will be very easy to swap the boxes on and off.

Just ordered my Rotopax today, got the 2 - 2 gallon paxs that I can hook together for 4 gallons or just take one for shorter trips. Will go the "figure out the best place to mount" deal when they arrive. If you order, type atvconnection in the coupon box for a 20% discount. I talked to them on the phone and they were very nice and very helpful.
