Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Is the motor intakes and air box hose air tight? He had to change them as well with the larger 40mm carb to fit, and CV carbs will not run right unless both ends are air tight.
The 40mm carb was added in 98 along with the new high duration cam on the scrambler well before the Sportsmans got it in 2001.
Not sure if the 40mm carb needs the newer cam to run right at stock setting, but the new 40mm must be able to be set up and jetted for the old cam as well.
Check the cam lopes, but if its running stock tires it cant have more than 1500- 2000 miles on it. Those cams do not were out that quick even if it running the wrong oil.
Our 97 500 Sportsman has 7500 miles on it,but it only ran 0w-40 from day one.

Other than the cam and carb is there any thing else that could cause my described problem? stator or cdi or something?
I am going to mike the carb and see if they are same size. I can use the jets in the old carb. I looked at a parts fich and the replacement carbs are the same for 97 as 2000. I really don't feel it is the carb i think it is something like the fuel pump, cam, burn valve, or jump time(if possible)

Got me a manual and started with the carb.
I had it hooked up wrong to the fuel pump had the pulse and fuel flipped.
(no carb was in the machine when I got it)
Fix it that
Start and runs prefect with the 2000 sportsman carb
no jetting problems either use what was stock
Thanks for all your help
