I just want to know how you can lighten up a 500 4x4 as much as possible, and still have it look like a Scrambler. Is it possible to get it to the low 500lbs.

Tough to do. Most people who are serious in putting there Scramblers on a diet go for the following: Starter elimination, oil injection elimination, lighter rims and tires, on older models replace steel with aluminum. You can add aluminum handle bars, drill holes in the chain guard,hmmmm...can't remember the others.

Some guys in here really lightened there quads by getting rid of every little thing that weighed something.

Some of the simple weight reduction I have done is replaced the steel sprocket guard with a home made aluminum one and replaced the stock steel rear wheel hubs with aluminum ones. I`m even thinking of going to an aluminum rear sprocket but in the conditions I ride I`d be replacing it every season. I`ve concentrated on rotating weight more than overall for now. I don`t want to lose the major items needed to reduce a lot overall weight. As 3TV showed us in a different post losing 35 lbs makes as big a gain as a pipe though. Time to start thinking about other things. Like an aluminum battery tray with a smaller battery. HTH

I changed modified or replaced the following to remove 50+lbs & could go another 20lbs if I wanted to start spending money. Short of expensive frames, tranny ect you can take off close to 70lb by changing the following: Pipe, muffler, floorboards, battery, starter, shifter, oil pump & resivor, fan, bumper/shrounding, all unused steel brkts & wiring/cables, tires, bars, rims, steering post, swingarm & a-arms to name a few. My pics might give you some ideas to try.
