Default Rear CV boot on a Sportsman 600

Hi guys. Been a while since I've been on here (Kids and Camaro have been taking a lot of my time). I did some spring maintainence on my Sportsman last week and noticed that one of my inner rear CV boots was torn. Well, I bought the boot and clamps from the dealer, and I removed the wheel, caliper, and hub...but how it the heck do you get the boot off and the new one back on? I've done searches, and I have (saved on computer) the parts manual, but that just gives me a basic pic. Help on this would be VERY appreciated. Thanks.

Default CV Boot

With the axle off the wheeler either pull back or cut off the old boot. Take a look on the axle side of the cv joint and you should be able to find a machined notch which gives you access to push down on the circlip while pulling on the axle and it should pop off(I put the axle in my bench vise and rap on the cv housing with a rubber mallet while pushing down on the circlip). Once it is off clean up the cv, grease it back up, slide the new boot on the axle, pop the cv back on, and then tighten up the boot clamps.

Thanks very much, that's good information. Is there a trick to get the axle off, or is it just the pull/pry method?

Default CV

If you have an extra set of hands you can pry on both sides of the cv(carefully) and pull. There was a good post on here where they bought a muffler clamo that was big enough to attach to the cv and then used a slide hammer to pop it off. Make sure to put a good coat of never seize on before putting the axle back in the housing to help when it needs to come out again!
