Default 550xp oil and filter

i just ordered the front cargo box for my xp and while i was at the local dealer i got some oil and a filter, polaris oil and filter. i was wondering what everyone else uses cause the parts guy, i dont think, had a clue what he was talking about. where do you guys buy your oil and filter and what is the parts numbers? i know there is ALOT of talk about oils but i dont know if i like using synthetic oil. what is the best for the money out there?

go to the wix filter web site and look up the # and buy them at napa or o'riley stores. many use mobil 1 (0w40w). I have run mobil1 and wix filters for years.

I hopefully HO will chime in, but I believe he said it was a napa (wix) 1356, that's what my 700 uses, they cost about $6 or so
also the Mobil 1 0W-40 is the way to go, here it's 6.99 a quart, versus the about 8 in the oil change kit

On another thread someone said the XP's take the same filter as the 500HO. After this weekend's ride I'm changing the oil and filter as I'll be out of the "break in zone" so I'll be finding out then. And I will be using Mobil1 0W-40, and Wix filter. Of course I run Mobil1 in everything I own that isn't a 2-stroke. (plug alert!)

I use the Polaris oil change kit, the same filter is on both the 850 and 550. I did need two different size filter wrenches to get the filters that came with the quads off but the oil change kit uses the same filter in both.

I stick to OEM filters after viewing a web site that analyzed various filters. After looking at the filter guts a bunch of the OEM filters were superior.

I know my 500 HOs (01, 02, 04, 05) have all used 1358 wix or 51358 NAPA.

WIX Filters : Filter Look-Up

Went to the cross reference chart and they do not list one for your machine. I would still use Mobil 1 instaed of pay Polaris prices for their oil. You must use sythetic but you do not have use Polaris.
