My dad is 69, and my mom is 67. They both ride 02 Sportsman 500's. We ride mountain trails and I've had both of them on many of the roughest trails on and off Windrock property, in Tennessee.

EPS? Wimps...

How many miles / hours do you ride at a time?. Do you ride technical trails with tight cleances at low speeds?.

The blessings of power steering are less rider fatigue and not having to 'manhandle' the machine over tight, rocky trails at low speeds. It also reduces handlebar kickback when hitting hidden obstacles on the trail.

If your riding consists of none of the above, you don't need power steering.

To me, it's worth whatever they charge if it keeps me from crashing after hitting a hidden rock or tree root at speed.

I had on two occasions the steering jet back and the handlebar in the GUT. Not a fun
experience, that was on my SP450. If the EPS can prevent then that is a great safety feature! Hey I think my price quote was $8300 with EPS.

PM me and I will give you the info. for my dealer!

It is nice to have, as mentioned above. Wimp.....no. I got it because it really helps with tracks in the winter. I can turn the bars with two fingers. Makes a big difference when one is plowing for an hour at 11pm in 10 degree weather. People have their own reasons. You don't want it, then don't buy it. The beauty of choices......It was worth the money for me.

Thanks folks for the responses. I would primarily be riding this on average type trails and not rocky ledges although many of our trails are pretty rocky. I wouldn't on average, be hitting very high speeds most of the time. The EPS would be ideal but unless I can talk them down a bit more on that model, I will probably pull the trigger on the non EPS version. Hell, I always have my jeep and it has power steering so why would I need another vehicle with it?
Cheers,
cc
