Default 2004 Polaris Sportsman 600 Twin

How hard is it to adjust the rear suspension in Sportsman 600? I need to stiffen it a bit cause when I ride with two people I’m bouncy as hell and at times the tires rub, I just want to go up like to clicks. Again I’ve never done this before so if anyone has any tricks or tips Id greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

A proper spanner wrench OR a large channel locks will do the trick but may scrape up the adjuster some.....spanner wrench may be in your tool kit.

I checked for the wrench and it didn't have it and our dealership here doesn't have one for sale. Look out e-bay here I come.

Or a large channel lock pliers will work as well if you can not get your hands on the spanner.

I can turn it with my hands? So when I turn it will it click or anything? Or do I just count the number of turns and do the same for the other side?

no I mean if you cant get your hands on a spanner wrench, as far as just getting one I mean. On the bottom of each rear shock there is an adjuster. As you turn it it will slip into different groves to tighten it up. You will understand when you look at it. You will need a adjustable plier or the correct spanner to do this. You dont have to turn it much to tighten it up. You cannt do it with just your hands.

yup. another one of polaris dumb thoughts. polaris stoped adding the spanner wrench to the tool kits round 01/02.. my 00 had one. i should have kept it. i got an 08 sportsman. it didnt inclued the spanner wrench. i looked at the parts for the took kit. thinking thay for got to add it. but they dont evon inclued it. muchless make that wrench no more. but its not called a spanner wrench. its called a Shock Preload Adjuster Wrench/tool. i checked the local dealer. no luck. found a few on ebay. im curntly bidding on one for $10 total. i have to adjust my rear shocks since i spray with mine now. and i can almost do a wheelie just sitting still with a full 25gal tank.

ajusting it is as easy as either counting the clicks, or you can look at it and tell if there the same.

Well Ive sprayed them for a 2 nights with a little wd40 and Ive cleaned all the dirt away from both, so I think later on Ill go out and jack it up and take the tires off and give it a shot. I was looking at it to night and it looks like a little moutain, Im just not 100% sure where to lock the channel locks onto....looks like its right above where the groves are.

The piece that looks like a mountain is where the wrench goes, should be plain alum. colored. Just make sure you tighten both sides equzlly.
