WB E series & SuperTrapp IDS2
#1
I read 3tvs E series post with alot of interest. I am preparing for my first performance mods other than my K&N. I was looking through my Rocky Mnt 2001 catalog and see the E series listed for 179$ and no shipping but there was no mention of the header pipe. It has been a few years since my last bike mods (93 CBR900RR) and at that point the SuperTrapp exhaust was a quality replacement. The Rocky catalog has the Trapp listed at 189$ along with the header pipe for a 97 SC 500. Do any of you have any knowledge of the IDS2 ? I read the Silencer shootout in DW and had seen the E series performed very well but the Trapp IDS2 wasnt in the testing. I would assume the IDS2 w/header pipe should give a fair improvement or am I assuming wrong ?

I have heard nothing but good about the IDS2. I ride with a couple of guys who have them and they say along with the jet kit, it gives some good power. The disks are not exposed so if you ever happen to hit some mud or water they will not get clogged up. I say go for the IDS2, and buy me one while your at it

I'm really happy with the IDS2. The internal discs keep the mud off and give it a better look than the WB pipe in my opinion. As far as power goes, I'm sure you're only looking at a few HP from either pipe, but being able to tune them is a big plus. The header pipe is a new style with springs similar to the stock pipe that soaks up vibrations to prevent breakage. The whole system also saves you a few pounds and looks very good.

I have the IDS2 racing series exhaust on my Scrambler 500. I was also tring to decide whether to get White Bros or Supertrapp. I chose the IDS2 system because it has internal disks and includes the header pipe. It looks great on the machine and gives it an agressive sound. It also saves a lot of weight over the stock system. I am very pleased with the power increase.

Rocky Mnt has the IDS2 w/header pipe for 189.$ they only sell the header pipe with silencer for a few models. The prices range from 179$ -239$ and as I said there are only a few models that include the header pipe.

IDS2 is considerably louder than stock. However, I am not sure how much louder the racing series pipe is compared to the quiet series. Right now I am using 9 discs. If you are concerned about the noise level just use fewer discs, but be prepared for a decrease in power. If you appreciate a nice four-stroke rumble it is for you. I really like the sound.

I had an original IDS1 on my '99 SP500HO. It was louder than stock. The IDS2 helped performance over the IDS1 turned down endcap, but its really a lot louder than the IDS1. In fact, it's a little louder than I like it. Im running with 12 discs. Note that some west coast engine builders were using the Supertrapp IDS, but taking the guts out (discs, and endcap) for racing. Boy, you want to hear LOUD, that's realy LOUD. There are some running this setup with their YZ engined MX racers last year.
