When I go 8 miles down the road at 60 and check the rear differential I can't put my hand on it, really hot. Is this normal? It really wines going down the road also. I took it in and they said the grease looks fine and seals are still good, but Ive never gone farther than 10 miles at a time. There is also a clicking noise at slow speed that I can hear. It has my nervous because my warrenty is about up. Anybody else have any of this going on? I would be curious to know if somebody else could check to see if theirs gets that hot in eight miles at that speed.

 

I can tell you the clicking is your rear cv joints there is a bulletin out on this problem polaris will replace axles free of charge. Just go talk to your dealer and tell them your axles are clicking they should replace both rear axles at no charge there is plenty of talk out there out this problem so get it done before your warranty runs out. those axles are 300.00 bucks aside. the rear end never checked I will get back to you on that.

 

If it is so hot that you cant touch it, the temp has to be over 130F. That is hot for a rear end I would think.

 

Na, 130 is not hot. Most gear sets if set up correctly should run around 150 to 180 deg.

 

Thanks for the info. Where can you find the service bulletins? I tried lookin but no dice. I know something is wrong, but of course the mechanic says no. Yea, patrolman or anybody let me know if yours gets that hot in eight miles. Does yours make a higher pitch wine moving down the rode compared to the older models? I should get one of those laser temps. After 16 miles, I bet that thing is smokin hot. Update, I talked to the dealer and he said no bulletin issued for mine. My production date is in december and has the eps. Let me know if they aren't looking in the right spot. Is there a way to verify the cv joint is bad besides the noise?

My guess is a bearing going out. I'd make the dealer tear into it while its under warrenty. Tell him if he ever wants to retain your business he'll take care of the problem. It seems like the answer ppl always get from the dealer the first time around when asking about somthing possibley wrong is...(naw don't worry thats normal) even if it isn't. If your warrenty is almost up definantly have them look at it. My tranny went out 4 days after leaving the showroom floor (wrong size bearing in one of the gears) and the bill came out to $2400, granted I have a Hawkeye but mistakes on a production line can happen to any model. Get it looked at for sure.

 

I had my whole rear end replaced because of heat and a howling sound coming from the rear end. Spool was set up too tight, too many shims. This was on my 850. Ok now. Many have had this problem.

 

Yep I have the same howling. What dealer has serviced some of these rear ends because my dealer has heard of no one having rear end problems. Had somebody drive slow and I can feel and hear the cv joints popping in there. Just ****es me off because I took a half day to go up there and get it checked only to be told I'm hearing things. Did they just take your word for it and tear into it or could they see something wrong? Where can I find the bulletins on this stuff? Its going back up there soon as I get time. I ordered one of those infrared temp sensors, good tool for bearrings and what not, so anything above 180 on the rear case would be too warm? Thanks for all the info.
