Like I said the Sportsman 500 (Carb) 1998 to at least 03 had EBS , its printed right on the Belt housing cover on mine. Like this one 
They sell 2001 SP500 EBS clutches on ebay. there was no EFI until 04 I think , well after ebs was around on the Sportsman.
