Default Speedometer connection.

Since I am in the center of my Polaris 400, (1996) trying to diagnose either a warped head or blown gasket, I am fixing old problems too. My speedometer went out very early in this ATV's life. The dealer told me that the plastic piece down in the engine is what strips, and it is not worth fixing.(too expensive) he told me that he would disable the speedometer for me.
Looking at it, He just unhooked the entire speedometer cable and it is gone! If I order a new one, i need to know where on the engine to connect it. I have searced ALL parts diagrams, and cannot find the crank case attachment.. Where does it go?? (if I can get to it, maby I can fix this "stripped" gear.)

Thanks
BB

I would think it would hook up to the transmission somewhere, not the engine. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to connect to the transmission.

I pulled the airbox and all. I exposed the entire trany and could not find any attachment. I even felt underneath. I cannot figure this out!
Anybody else have suggestions. I also investigated the R. front wheel assembly.........no attachment.

I am guessing that the dealer put a bolt or some type of plug in the hole for it. Since it has been there for a while, it will probably not be very obvious. I checked the manual for that model and it does indeed say the cable is connected to the left side if the transmission case cover. unfortunately, there are no pictures showing it.

I am pretty sure I have the same book and it does not have the picture unfortunately, but it is still very good to have. I can also send you this if you need, it is a fairly large file though, about 70mb.
