Thumbs down leaking rear boot

I just had my 08 SP 500 HO serviced and the right rear inside boot was leaking grease. It is still under warranty so I asked the dealer to fix it and was told that it was not covered under the warranty. The boot is leaking around axle (no tear) and I only have 170 miles and 25.8 hrs on it. Before I call Polaris Monday what is everyone's opinion??? I think with no damage and low hrs/miles it should be fixed. I guess my local dealer is pi$$ed because I went out of state to get a $900 better deal than he could give. All I was asking for was a new clamp because I have not had it in allot of water and it has only leaked enough to see some dust/grease collecting around the axle. So what do you think, call Polaris or fix it myself??????

Boot clamp + tool to put it on with is more than a few dollars I would think, but I have not turned wrenches for a living since the late 80's. Back then a clamp tool was about $50.00 for auto boot clamp tool.

Default Boot

Pretty sure they won't cover it under warranty. I believe Moose has a clamp tool for under $25. As long as you own an ATV it will be a wise tool to have.

it wont be covered under warranty so dont even waste the phone call. you just need to tighten the clamp up if you can. actually the right way would to do it would be to take the clamp off andclean the grease out from under the grove that t sets in for a good seal. you dont want water or dirt in there or say good by to your expensive cv joint. imo

Mine is leaking grease also. Can the clamp be re-used once removed? If not, does Polaris sell just the clamps?

Thumbs down Cv leaking

Naw,Polaris wants to sell you the cv boot kit complete. CV Restoration (thecvman( 6641) sells pretty good products on e-bay cv boot kits,cv axles,cv tool & clamps. Also axleprosplus( 382) on e-bay sells the same. I have brought lots from cvman -- boot kits, tools,cv axles, etc he works with you and makes things right IF anything goes wrong.. ps----polarat,yes if ur careful with the clamps they can be re-used....

Yeh, minus the 850 axles, Polaris usually won't touch axles hardly at all

Thanks to all. It looks as if I am off to the auto parts store to see what I can come up with as soon as I get home. Does anyone know the part # of a GOOD clamp that will work? I want to get it fixed ASAP, so I don't want to order it if I don't have to.
