Default Help needed: 2007 Sportsman 800

Hello all!

Been using the forums for a while for research and finally decided to sign-up... although I wish it was under better circumstances!

I picked up a fairly new '07 800 EFI (Deluxe) with about 1150km on it. Took it out this weekend... first day it seemed fine. Today though, it was having some very odd issues.

First I noticed I had to give it quite a bit of throttle before it would start moving. Sometimes when it did start to move it was jerky too. Then later on, when I gave it some gas (from a stop) it would rev really high and barely crawl along... revving so high I thought it was going to blow haha
It would eventually start moving... so I headed back to the truck right away just in case. Even while doing 30-40 if I gave it more gas it would just rev high again and not really accelerate (even heard some odd sounds that may have been metal on metal).

Any suggestions as to what might be the problem? I searched the forums but didn't know what I was looking for exactly.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it could be a clutch problem. Did you go through any water. It may just be a wet belt. I would take the clutch cover off and see if anything weird is going on in there. It is probably just a worn out belt. They are fairly easy to change and not to expensive. Here is a video so you know what you are getting into. You can skip the part about removing the clutch if it is only a bad belt.

It sounds like a belt/clutch problem to me too!

No. You need to make sure that the clutch cover is sealed properly. Become familiar with where the vent opening is and keep the water level below that point. Welcome to the forums.
