That was one other thing I did notice, the underside was kinda caked with that dark chocholate grit. I will make sure I get the mixure right when things are all put back together.

Also, thanks, I did today after work take the cylinder and piston in for that reason so I had an idea of what o/s piston to get. The piston does look to be factory.

Thanks again for the reply

Kel

Kelly: If they ran it into deep water (?), they may have actually sucked some water into the engine (and, other parts of the wheeler like exhaust pipe, tranny, etc.) If I were you, I would be checking over everything before trying to start it. You have a 2-stroke engine and if water got sucked in through the carb, you probably have some in the crankcase area also and water in that area will cause rusting of bearings in very short order.

Thanks tv4fish for the reply- I think I am ok, but I will check it out.

QUESTION??????????
I am familiar with the air adjust screw on carbs on other motors like my boat, but I am not familiar with the throttle stop screw on the carb.
Is there kind of a standard setting for both(air and throttle adjust) of those screws on ATVs like mine. WHen I got it and rebuilt it I saw that the air adjust screw was set at 1.5 turns out and the throttle stop screw was set at 3.25 turns out.
Aslo, this may have been diff when the engine was damaged, not sure though. I know that the carbs were cleaned after the engine was damaged in the trouble shooting process in an attemp to get it running again by the origional owners.

1998 polaris xpress 300, 2cyl w oil pump.

Thank You!!!
