Default Sportsman 600 4x4 problem

I think its an 04 but I cant keep up with what years we have. I havent ridden it yet because I have it torn apart fixing a couple of other things. But my brother had it at school with him for the last year and he said the 4 wheel drive would kick in without hitting the switch. A couple of people got thrown off trying to do donuts. It will ride in 2 wheel drive but I dont know for how long or at what speed. Has this happened to anyone else. Im going to do a full service on it, so I will be changing the fluid.

make sure it has the proper fluid in the front end....if that is correct after checking by putting new in then the plastic roller cage could be damaged in the front end....just an idea.
