Default Fluid changing questions

Hello all,

I recently bought a 1993 polaris 250 2x4 2 stroke. I just replaced the starter which was a much more complex job than I ever imagined it would be on this machine. Anyways, when I removed the old starter, I noticed that there was a lot of water dripping out of the seams. I put in the new starter and it works fine, but just yesterday noticed that there is more water dripping out of the seams of the starter. Any idea where this water would be coming from? I just drove it around my yard since the new starter install. My other question is I would like to change fluids on this, but am not sure what all needs to be changed. There are a few drain bolts down by the starter that I am unsure of what they are. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Did you get all the water/moisture out of the recoil assy when you changed the starter?
Water has to get in somewhere, either from the rope assy or around the recoil case. As far as fluids only the trans has to be change, holds about 18-20 ounces AGL or lube suitable for chaincase gearcases. The oil tank doesnt need to be changed, only kept full.Plus keep the chain lubricated and keep it greased. There is a drain bolt on the recoil cover at the bottom and a 10 mm crankcase drain plug at the center of the engine in case it get gas contaminated. Plus the replacement starters have a drain hole built in at the bottom and some come with the bolt and some dont. Make sure you have a bolt in the starter to keep moisture out. Plus did you have a gasket come with the starter and seal around the starter with sealant also when installed?
