How many miles on your 850xp belt
#14
2142 miles/100.9 hrs on my 09 XP850, no belt problems. Love the Low range gearing I don't mind slipping it down to low, knowing that I can still move along a a pretty good clip on tight trails.
Only one problem about 300 miles ago I had a (very slow) water pump leak, lost enough coolant to check out the limp-in mode, it works good, stopped and filled with drinking water to get back (temperature warning is a good thing). It was just a seal so I'm not rating it as a huge disappointment ( but it shouldn't go out that early in the machine life). But as far as cooling under stressful conditions,,,no problem ever. The 2142 miles has been a real joy so far.
Also I don't have EPS and my range in easy riding is right at 110+ miles on a full tank of fuel, which is better than my 2006 800 sptsmn.
One Polaris bi*** ,,, I broke the plastic thumb throttle piece ,,, I am told that you have to buy the whole throttle unit,,,as many know the thumb part comes apart,,,with know real need to replace everything. Is anyone making just the thumb part???,,, and if it was available in billet that would be sweet.

2009 Sportsman XP problems
I have 1,100 miles on my 2009 Sportsman XP and I blew the belt yesterday..Never have abused it except for a few wide open bursts here & there..I guess I'm going to have to carry a spare belt because there is no way you're going to get anywhere near 5,000 miles on the belt...Another problem I had was the oil dip stick O-ring swelled and ripped leaking oil all over my boot & machine. The replacement ring was $11 what a rip..And the last problem is the most disturbing..The top of the left front wheel is leaning in toward the center-line of the machine 1/8" inch..I think it is the ball joints..Polaris already has replacement ball joints for the 2009s..they know of the problem but refuse to recall them...I hope Polaris will step up to the plate and fix the problems on the 2009s before someone gets killed with a ball joint failure..

BTW I wish I was in an area where I would be able to ride over 2000 miles a year...

DOn't hold your breath that the latest round of ball joints will fix the problem...there are people who have had problems with the new ones as well...it isn't the ball joints exactly..the joint to knuckle fit is where they tend to get loose from what I have been hearing...

Haven't heard of an aftermarket piece...where and how did it break? I have heard of one other person breaking the the thumb throttle...the other gent was not happy about having to replace the whole assembly either.

OK I admit that I'm hard on equipment. It was on that trip I busted off the end of the thumb piece with my knee when I dismounted. There was just enough left that it could be jerry-rigged with the trusty Vise-Grips and a oyster can lid folded, and bent to form a thumb piece. Drove that way for about 200 miles quite well,,,got me back anyway.
