Default First post, need help please...

hey all I just joined the forums and it seems there is a lot of knowledgeable people on here so I hope some one can help me out.

I have a 2002 xplorer 400 2 stroke 4x4

while driving it suddenly died, and would not restart, the starter just clicked, so i tried the pull start and nothing, ok so i know more then likely this means serious engine failure inside. So I pulled the engine (not fun) and ripped the engine apart and sure enough when i got the head off I found one lower side of the piston to be broken and pieces had gone down into the crank, I want to make sure I get everything cleaned up good, so how on earth do i get the crank shaft out? (it looks like the case splits in half right through the cylinder but i got all the bolts out and i don't think its going anywhere...)

also what else should i be replacing while everything is torn apart so far i got:

piston
rings
head gaskets
clutch side oil seal

do i need to do the piston rod and crank bearings? what else should i be replacing ?

Welcome to the forums.

Hopefully someone that has done that will post a few pointers for you. You might also look into a service manual. I have a little more trouble putting stuff back together than taking it apart.

crank bearings for sure. most likely the factory seal is whats holding it together. it seals real good on the machined services. welcome to the forum.

use a heat gun around the bearing areas. that will expand the crankcase halves and let you tap the crank out of them.
