Magnum 4x4 driven pulley spring
#1
My 1996 Magnum is used mainly for hauling wood around my land and ,now it bogs down and will not rev when you try to start out on a hill with a load on ,it does fine on the flat ,I have put a new belt in and I am now looking at the spring in the driven pulley , it is a red one and was in # 2 hole on the Helix cam and #1 hole on the movable pulley half , the little buttons have very slight wear on them.
My question is I need more low speed torque for take off on the hill ,which holes should I put the new spring into and is the stock spring good or should I up grade the spring
any help
thanks

By setting the spring stiffer that helps you keep the rpms up. Make sure to preload or to wind the spring also when you install it. If its the same stock spring from 1996 it is time for a new one. A new stock one will help or you can go to a purple EPI part # PDS-6 for a heavy duty spring. The tighter you set the spring the longer the clutches stay in a lower gear to help keep getting power to the ground. Below is a spring tension chart with the stiffest at the top and getting softer as you go down.
