welcome to the forum. first what is the bike? as i ws typing my message i just realized this is an 06' model and wondered if maybe a bad ECM which does funky things including throw hot warming when bike is not overheating. this might have to do w/ the battery light as well, but that could be totally a differnt issue. anyways some model bikes in that year had a recall. giving the dealer a call w/ the vin# he should be able to tell you if it is a recall bike. let us know. usually i would first ask if you have a plugged radaitor as it will cause overheating, but you say its not hot? depending on how before it throws the antifreeze, i would think a stuck thermostat, but there again this would cause the engine to overheat. is the fan working or coming on when the hot light flashes?

it is a 06 Polaris sportsman 500 HO.I will contact the dealer on Monday. They told me to try the rad cap but didn't run the vin#.Just wondering if you think a head gasket could do this. And thanks for your reply.

the temp light comes on when you have traveled 2 or 3 miles at 40 to 50 +mph.

i'm guessing that the ecm is bad as mentioned as the 450's (like caper's bike) and the 500's had a bunch of bad ones. if the bike was overheating it would actually be spraying antifreeze out the little tank on the side. if it's overheating and doing that at a short distance as mentioned(2-3 miles) from a cold start, then maybe a stuck thermostat might be the issue. be warned if you continue to drive the bike after it's overheated(if it actually is overheated like i mentioned) then you could do damage as blowing the head gasket or warp a head.

is the thermostat located at the water pump.I ask because I had to change water pump seal shortly after I bought this summer and didn't see a thermostat. So could it be the previous owner pulled the thermostat after the ecm started sending hot codes.Would this cause the over flowing of coolant.

if you follow the hose to the engine there should be a therm housing that you can see. looks like a car one if you have seen one.

Thermostat is on the left side upon the cylinder, has a coolant hose attached to it.
