Counterbalancer Gear (Polaris Sport 400L)
#1
Does anybody know how to press a counter balancer gear back on without taking CB out?
I'd try hammering it but I don't want to damage the balancer.
This is on a Sport 400L.
Thanks,
Jimmy

How did you get it off in the first place? Also looking at your pic, you have some issues there. With Rust on the outside, water seal is going and or gone, will only get worse. Second, you have to line up the two dots

A harmonic balancer puller
The dots are actually lined up (it's just the angle of the picture).
I didn't think about the water seal, though the rust is behind the pump case, the pump case was not bolted on right which caused the gears to strip, and caused the coolant to flow down into the crankcase.

Our factory tool is a u-shaped bracket that rests on each side of case. It has a threaded shaft that screws onto c/b shaft and pulls it up AFTER you heat the c/b inner bearing area.Dont know what some of the posters have done without damaging the shaft ,but you have to be careful! Might be a worth while investment on ordering the tool if you plan on doing your own work. To get the balancer back down just heat the side of the case around where the counter balancer seats and it should just drop back in,BUT have the hold down plate under the balancer before you drop back in!

Heat the case around the c/b inner and outer bearing area with a propane torch for about 4-5 minutes and c/b should slip down in place. If you are not planning on taking c/b out again skip the tool! If you want it dealer can order it for you. OPT
