Default dieseling trailblazer 250?

Today we were using the quad to haul cart fulls of leaves to bottom of property.First trip down the quad starts idleing real fast then starts reving as fast as it could go.I yelled to the boy to shut it off as i am running down to see whats going on.He has the key in his hand the kill switch off and the thing is still screaming.I pulled the plug wire off the plug and it still wouldnt shut down. Then i shut off the fuel and turned the choke on and it died.I figured the plug was glowing and thats why it was still running. When i checked the plug it was coco brown and looked good.I put the plug back in and it fired right up and ran fine the rest of the day.Thankfully he had it in neutral when this all happened. So what was going on and is it something i can fix so it doesnt happen again?thanks for the help.

wow that is werid for sure. a massive air leak might make if rev like it did. was it idling along time causing it to be very hot where it's air cooled causing the spark plug to be hot as you mentioned? whats weird as you stated that the plug was not white from running lean?? advanced timing will cause dieseling but don't know about that advanced.
