Default Battery question

I have a 03 sp 600. A couple of weeks ago I was out on my bike and I parked it at the house when I went to get back on it it was dead, no lights on dash nothing would work. I hooked it up to jumper cables and got it started. I haven't had any trouble with it till today. I was out plowing with it and my dash would look like big puzzle when I would run the winch and then would come back to normal. When I got back home I put it on volt meter and it read 12v shut off, then I started it and it read 14 to 15. Then I run the winch and it would drop down to 8 or so. I assuming I need a new battery, but just wanted to see if it could be anything else. Thanks in advance...

Yep Sure sounds like a battery issue especially if battery is 03 recheck volts after you install new battery.Battery tenders work good for long storage too great battery extender! You made sure you have tight connection?

Make sure to check your acid level as well. Depending where you got your battery, take it to them and have the check it. They will run a test on it to tell you if you need a new battery or not. I just took my old one yesterday to walmart and the meter said it was bad. Got a new one and it works perfect so the tests are pretty accurate.

i agree on load testing the battery once it is chaarged up to se if it's good or bad. just remember that the winch is working strickly off the battery and these bikes charging system aren't very strong. if the battery is low because of using the winch, then you will have electrical issues and maybe a runabilty probelm from lack of voltage as well. imo

Same thing happened to my 2004. A new battery will square you away.

agree. get a new battery. if my battery goes out this winter im gona get a agm deep cycle battery. and try that. i got my wheeler new last yr and the battery lasted tell feb then it froze on me. it did the same thing yours is doing. making the display go funky. plus i had to recoil start mine. and it sitll had no power to run the winch. got that battery warrantyed. so if this yr it happens again im gona try a agm battery.

I agree with the others on using a battery tender. Best investment you can make to greatly extend battery life!
