BTW,I'd be glad to look at it for you. I'd hate for you to drive all the way down though and not be able to duplicate it. Have you been able to relate anything to when it happens? Ie outside temp, after it gets wet..anything?
Also, sounds like multiple issues Hot Light shouldn't have anything to do with the steering, unless it is an ECU problem..

I got your e-mail concerning your phone number. I got home late last night...I will call you later this morning. The problem is sporradic...except for the "buzzing" noise when you turn the key on and don't crank the machine. Also at times, the steering becomes "hard", engine on or off, when sitting in tthe garage on a slick concrete floor. The units I have checked at the dealers don't do this. The temperature makes no difference..nor does it being wet, The hot light for the steering has come on just after 5 minutes of riding. The check engine light has come on 3 times, but it goes out and the dealer advised that it did not store a code. I put in in diagnostic mode when the check engine light was on and got a code and wrote it down, along with the date and time...unfortunately threw the paper away...and I don't remeber the code. When I took it to a dealer and gave them the code number I was told it did not exist. This was also the same code that came up when it overheated. The ECM was diagnosed as the problem.
When I first got the machine..on the first ride I took it to in Tn. the engine overheat liight came on and the fan would not come on. This was with only 20 miles on it. Luckily it started to function OK and I was able to finish the ride. I got it home and my wife rode it in our yard for 5 minutes and the temp. light came in and it got hot enough to cut off. It also threw the check engine light then. I realize the engine overheating is not related to the steering problem..the reason I mention it is because HO makes mention about the hot light coming on is related to the ECM. Makes one wonder if the ECM has gone bad again...

Couple things to check...check the battery voltage and your battery connections. They EPS uses a good bit of current...if it isn't getting enough,it will ratchet and act weird.
Had the same problem with the PS on my Can-Am when I first brought it home the PS would intermittenly get hard to turn...come to find out one of the battery cables were never tightened when the battery was installed. Tighten the cable and not a hiccup since.

Good deal...glad that was all it was.
