every one seems to have thier own opinion about a belt drive bike and polaris seems to get the worst of the bad PR and i wonder if they have owned one when they say this? i can only speak form my own personal experince having owned 2 800's. if operated correctly, i have NEVER had any belt isues w/ either burning the belt or if the cover is sealed right, getting any water on it as well. oh course this is just my .02

$5900 out the door is a great deal! I personally have'nt heard of many issues with the sp 800's. They are time tested models and are for the most part, just as reliable as the other brands providing you take care of it and do the proper maint. Maint. is the key for any brand if you expect longevity. As for the belts, If you use the proper gear range for the task at hand the belt will last a long time. The mistake some riders make is using high range when running slow for extended periods of time or working the machine hard in high when you should really be in low. The end result of improper gear selection is of course premature belt failure.

My buddy bought a 400 Sportsman new in 1996. He plows snow every winter an still has the original belt! This is why I decided on a Polaris. The key is to use low range.

Ditto on the low range. My 05 800 was lifted, clutched, 29.5 laws, etc. It lived buried in the mud Spring/Summer, plowed snow all Winter, and never had belt issues. Replaced one belt in 4 years only as preventive maintenance(it still had plenty of life left on it).
