Default 2005 Polaris 400 Sportsman engine swap???

Hi all,

Newbie here trying to help out a friend. His 2005 Sportsman 400 seized up due to an oil delivery issue. Our local dealer has a stripped 500 engine that he said will bolt right in. My concern is, will the complete ignition system from the 400 work on the 500 engine? I know the carburation will need attention but I'm more concerned about the ignition. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The Fuji 425 is the same motor as the Fuji 500 just a different bore or stroke or both. From the out side you cant tell them apart. The 500 can use the 34mm or 40mm carb and 39mm Throttle Body, EFI
. What year atv is the 500 out of?

The year hasn't been verified yet but if I understand correctly, the older model 500 used the same size of carb as the 400 where the newer 500 uses the 40mm.....I'm I correct? (The 500 mentioned is not the EFI)

In 2001 Polaris put the larger 40mm carb and high duration cam from the 500 Scramblers (Same 500 fugi as well) into the 500 Utility Sportsman and called it a H.O.

Your 34mm carb and its intake will slip right on a 500. Be nice if its a 2001 or newer Sportsman motor to get the performance cam as well or a 500 out of a scambler.

I have a 500 HO motor in a 97 425 magnum, it flies, you will need to know if its an Ho motor or not so you can get the carb right, the ho's dont run right without the bigger carb.

I,m sure the 34mm carb will run the H.O fine but just not to its full potential, but still there should be a power increase just because of the hotter cam alone over a regular "non" H.O 500 motor.
