I tried emailing he Polaris consumer service but they couldn’t give me an answer. They just referred to my dealer which does not have the same interest in this as me.


So…..here I go….fluids for the countless time:

I am going to change the fluids on my 1999 Polaris Worker (Sportsman)
The manual I have got (Clymer) says part no 2871654 for the front hubs and part no 2871478 for transmission oil.

My local dealer gave me this:
Hubs: Part no 2877283
Transmission: Part no 2877283

He said this was the only fluids he got (he became a dealer 2-3 months ago) and supposed they was "OK" to use on my quad.

Is these fluids from my dealer OK, or please advise if I should insist on the ones mentioned above!

the hubs and tranny shouldn't be takig the ame fluid, the hub fluid is the most important one for being correct or the awd won't work right. you can use other oils (non polaris) for the rest. imo

 

Yes, my intention is using the Polaris fluids.

My concern is if the fluids I got from my dealer is OK?

My local dealer gave me this:

Transmission: Part no 2877273

I got an answer from Polaris and these are the correct fluids for my '99 Sportsman.

 

thats good. like i mentioned the biggest concern is w/ the hub fluid being right is becuase the awd would not work right if the wrong lube was used. you can use any good quailty syn. oil 0-40 for the engine oil. good luck and enjoy the ride.

 

I stick with the Polaris on demand Fliud for hubs but other than that I use aftermarket stuff. In the tranny I used the same synthetic chain case oil I use in my sleds, and synthetic 75W-90 weight gear oil for the front diff. I used to used Amsoil 0W-40 but my Polaris dealer sells the whole oil change kit for $25 so I have been using that now.

If the hubs on those are like the '99-2000 Scramblers, then the type FA Transmission fluid worked as well or better than anything Polaris offers. Either way, they hang up occasionally, but that's just inherent with that design, I suppose.
