Question 06 Polaris Hawkeye Awd Not Engaging

I purchased an 06 Polaris Hawkeye a few weeks ago and the awd will not engage. I'm not familiar with this system and have not idea where to start. It doesn't seem to work at all. Atv runs great otherwise. I don't hear anything when I engage the switch and don't know if I should. We have 10 inches of snow now and the front wheels aren't turning at all with the switch engaged. Please help.

Thanks,

George

The fronts don't engage unless the backs spin 20% faster than the fronts. Jack up so all 4 wheels are off the ground. Make it secure, then start it and give it a bit of throttle and see if the fronts turn when in awd. If not, THEN start looking for the reason.

We have 1ft of snow here right now and the rears have been spinning like crazy. I also tried jacking the whole thing up when I first got it and the right front turned some but the left front didn't turn at all. When its on the ground in the snow and the rear wheels are spinning like crazy the rears aren't doing anything. I'm getting power to the switch.

Thanks Guys,

George

Sounds like you should direct this question to "OldPolarisTech". Either pm him or hope he sees your post.

I went out tonight and changed the diff fluid. I also checked to make sure I'm getting juice to the switch and diff. Power is getting to both. After changing the fluid I jacked it up and the wheels would turn in reverse with the override switch pressed but I could stop them with my hand. The same in forward but easier to stop. Sometimes neither would turn. They seemed to turn more when the wheels were off. I'm not familiar at all with the internal workings of these diffs so any help would be appreciated. I did use the correct diff fluid.

Thanks,

George

Plastic roller cage syndrom. Read all about it. http://forums.atvconnection.com/sear...earchid=323766

Should be a recall on them I think.

Will the John Deere cage work on the Hawkeye diff? $200 for a new Polaris cage is ridiculous.

Thanks,

George

Have to check the Polaris part number, but may models use the same Plastic roller cage, The JD is not alot cheaper but at least you only have to buy it once, unlike the Polaris Roller cage.
