Out of curiosity, where could I find set of chains for towing like that? I have been searching craigslist for awhile and haven't had much luck. I would want a set for emergency use, longer reaches, etc. I am guessing the people in my area aren't giving them up easily, thus the lack of search results. I would think new would be fairly expensive???
You'd be better off getting a good tow strap...They stretch a little before they pull so you'll never get that jerking...

true...good point. In addition, it's a lot lighter to carry along and drag with you to the recovery point!

In addition, if a tow strap comes loose or breaks while under load, it is not nearly as deadly as a chain flying through the air.

either way you look at it they both can be deadly. a ropestrap will streach more than a chain then when it breaks its like a rubber band. and my chain but being that short theres a vary little chance of it being deadly. if you worried about everything that could happen you may as well die now as anything and everything could be deadly.

A good trick is to put a coat or blanket over the chain/strap to keep it from flying to far. Of course, I did this when trying to roll over a big rock with my truck. Put the strap around it, put a new sweatshirt I had over it, and pulled. The rock rolled over 1/2 turn too many and pinned my nice sweatshirt under it. It was all torn up.

My comment was more on the lines that a wide strap will stretch slightly before pulling so you don't get a jerking motion...I never said your chain wouldn't work...And as far as "worrying" about everything that can go wrong, I don't necessarily worry but I do take precautions to lessen the chance of an accident happening...

nice plow pics guys, but i still like my truck plow way better and warmer. speaking form experince i was being pulled by a chain thri a snow bank yrs ago and yep snap! i ducked as the chain came thru the windshield where i was sitting. of course we new it could happen as he was backing up to get a run for it and chains don't like to be jerked just for that reason. a big rope and strap does work nice for sure if you have one.

THANKS ALOT CHUCK! No wonder why people with your first name never get to throw the football..lol...lol....j/k

My WIFE just looked at your awesome pictures and happened to hone in on your times of the photos. She said" Now you have a half an hour go out and clear our 3ft snow driveway!"

Good job BTW!
