If the u-joint broke and not the cv joint, maybe you could try to remove the axle from the cv joint instead and tow or drive it in that way?
There is a roll pin holding the u-joint yoke to the front gearcase(which aren't fun to get to, even in a shop) If you broke the u-joint and can remove the axle from the cv(which is done by pulling sharply on it to get it out of the cv joint) Leave the cv joint in the hub and bring it in that way.
I never tried to remove an axle shaft from a cv(by pulling on the axle I mean), I always had the wheel, suspension etc off and removed the cv joint from the axle. You may be in for a fight. Good luck.

we towed one in like that, we got the front tires on the back rack and ratchet strapped it down to the rack...it worked without recking anything.

we had to do that to a cam am that was full time 4x4. what a night mare as it was dragging the rear tires the whole time as the fronts were locked into place so they wouldn't roll off.

Do you have, or know someone, that has one of those basket type receiver hitch racks you see people hauilng cargo with behind trucks/suv's? Could put that on the back of the tow atv and then strap the front end of the 400 onto it and pull it that way.

Yep, or you could go to a local junk yard and grab a hood of an old something and punch a couple holes for chains......then ratchet-strap the beast to the hood and drag it that way.
