Default 850xp front end sag while plowing

I have an 09 850 and it has a winch, front brushguard and front storage box with necessities. No problems. When I push snow I add a 60" moose blade, Mibar electric actuator and Moose hydro turn kit. A few hours into plowing and the front springs are shot. Can I take the springs off of the front shocks and replace them with pieces of metal pipe that are the appropriate length and diameter to lock the front suspension? If I was only pushing snow would there be any potential breakage issues? I know it would be less stable.

that would interesting for sure. don't know if you did that in place of the springs if it would effect anything or not. it would stop thr front from compressing for sure, but when you throttle and the weight transfers back if it would be all afloat unless the pipe was bolted in place or not. just a thought.

nooooooo,

Normally I don't recommend buying anything from HL, as their prices are outrageous. However, the do have a heavy duty spring for the 850 that is supposed to handle an additional 100 lbs up front.

When I was considering another PoPo, they were going to be one of my mods for similar reasons as yours.

There's no way to do a spring spacer like the 05-08 sportsmans is there? I don't remember exactly how the front suspension is set up

The pipe would have to fit snug so the shock could not compress or extend. Anyone else think of any negatives?

Use a pipe just bigger than the shock, but drill and tap the pipe and add maybe 2 capscrews to use as locking setscrews to lock the pipe to the shock effectively locking the front suspension. (Of course you risk crushing the shock that way too) OK maybe it's a dumb idea.

Looks like you can even get some polaris HD springs for it. This would be another way to go, if you didn't want to go with the highlfter springs. I think going with a solid pipe would be a bad idea and a lot more work fitting the pipe and getting it to work.

I wish they made some air shocks for these machines....Would be really nice to be able to add air to beef up their capacity then let it out when not needed...I had a set on an old truck in the rear and they worked out great...just a thought...

Don't think you can do that bro-
When you turn- you are also compressing the springs a little depending if you turn left or right.
I think you would be putting too much stress on other componets.

I used to have a full suspension go kart about 10 years ago. My brother & I broke the front suspension and decided just to weld the shocks solid- took about 5 minutes in a field, and only a few turns before the pitman arm snapped (connecting the tie rod to the steering shaft) When a mechanic friend of my dads looked at it, he said the springs needed to compress with an a-arm suspension when turning, even on flat terrain.

I think it's a bad idea.

Interesting.....I have a Moose plow and don't have any issues with the front end, but don't have all the extras you mention either......Preload is set to factory. You might want to try the Polaris HD factory springs.

Air springs would be cool as JC mentions.

Edit: I weigh 170lbs. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
