Is the belt hard to change on the Sportsman 500 H.O.and what tools do I need to change it? Does it take any special tools? The reason I ask is I thought I might carry a spare belt with me just in case I brake one on the trail.

Info from memory(from helping a buddy). 10mm socket for the cover, I believe you need to loosen the rear fender from the floor board to remove the cover.

If you are talking about an HO, it should be a 2001 model, and if memory serves me right, the 01 models are extremely easy to change the belt on. All you have to do is go to your dealer, as they have a 'lifetime' belt warranty on the belt, labor included.
If you do want to do it yourself, that was covered already.

You'd be wanting to use a 3/8 size socket with that American machine, Also take off the foot rest this also means you take the lower plastic screws (philips and 7/16 locknut to the foot rest making it alot easier to take off the cover. If you do alot of mud swamping you should always change the squash seal at the outer cover its 12$ Canadian which is about 2bucks American these days.Take the belt off by hand no special tools needed and slip the new one on .
