the bumper i have is all steel with steel brackets... must be alum bumpers out there for the people that buy a 6-7k wheeler and leave it sit in the garage. but tell everyone they have one.... just to say they have one.

and every single sport quad with an aftermarket front grab bar (all aluminum alloy) must do nothing but sit in a garage, AND I'm sure no one is using aluminum skid plates to bounce & slide off rocks- FWIW, some high-strength aluminum alloys like 6061 with a T6 temper is Pound for pound stronger than some steel alloys. So I wouldn't go knocking anyone using aluminum bumpers just because of a poor bracket design.

I'd be looking at the first thing that is going to take an impact without a bumper. Radiator, oil cooler, frame, a-arms?
I folded a bumper on a tree. Trail I'd been on a hundred times too. Still bent an a-arm, but at least I could ride it back to the truck. Without it, I'd have hit on the end of the frame. No telling how much damage that would have done, or what it would cost to repair. As it was, it still cost 130 bucks.

right... cause the pics I posted of my sp800 stuck in a mud bog and blasting through 2'+ deep mud holes looks like my garage...
