What's the bottom like? Mud, sand, rocky?

Here in mass, under most water is mud or muck 1-2 feet thick that sucks you right down- nothing to grab.

I got stuck in this mud bog today- wheels just kept spinning, bike kept sinking- couldn't grab nothing to get out!
