Skid Plate / A Arm Guards
#1
The new Polaris catalog shows a couple of interesting accessories. They have plastic A arm guards and skid plates. When installed, the botton of the ATV is nearly one solid flat piece. Looks like it would glide over most any obstruction. Anyone with thoughts?

I installed both the plastic skid plate and A-arm guards from polaris. You have to drill holes into the frame for the skid plate. The only down side I can see is the screw heads may get caught up on debris. The actual install was simple. I got them for sliding through the snow but now that all of the snow is gone I'll have to test them out in the spring mud...

I would appreciate hearing your comments after a while if you think it was worth the money and trouble. I think the theory is sound but would like to hear from you after you have been through some mud.

I ride with some people who have these plastic skid plates. Whereas they glide/slide over logs, I usually get hung up due to the Sportsman skid plate being like a rasp. Lots of little protrusions to grab hold of wood. In my opinion it would be money well spent.

They get pounded and scarred, but aren't rigid. That seems to allow them to "absorb" most of the punishment. I believe the same material they use to cover the boards of a hockey rink.
