Starter Removal

If the bolt you are takling about it the upper one when you are lying under the machaine ... it is a wee bit tricky. This is what I did.
I purchased a 1/4 drill adaptor shank (a 2inch long shaft that goes into a drill chuck that takes 1/4 scokets ... Dewalt I think). I put the proper size 1/4 socket on the pesky bolt and measured the distance between the top of the socket and bracket. I removed the socket. Then I popped the shank into the socket, marked the measurement on the shank and cut off the excess.
This allowed me to put the socket on the bolt and use a 7/16 (I think) wrench on the shank to turn the socket. it was a little tight but it worked.

I won! I got the starter out. I ended up bending (modifying) a wrench to get the bolt out. The starter was a real mess. The parts to rebuilt are $49.00 for the brush set and $3.50 for all the gaskets. The local starter shop wanted $150 to rebuild...ouch!

Did you rebuild the starter yourself or did you find a shop that would do it for a reasonable price?
