Thumbs up New guy and his new 2010 reddish orange 850XP

Hello everyone, I joined the forums to help me decide on either the 850xp or the can-am 800r. I went with the Polaris, mainly for the nice ride, and the killer deal I got on it.

I am very pleased with the bike, I haven't got to ride it much yet. (only like 10 miles). But I am having a VERY hard time taking it easy on it during the break-in period. But I guess I could just swap over to the (run the h*ll out of it to break it in right crowd) lol. I find that the power is good, not as much as I was thinking, but I guess everything feels slower when you are used to high horsepower street bikes. But the bike IS powerful. Riding down the dirt road at 50 mph and bumping the throttle brings major tire spin. I also found the fit and finish very good.

I went a head and already put on 26'' bighorns, I kept the factory black wheels for now. And I actually think they look pretty tough, and they also a breeze to clean. And a moose brushguard that mounts in 4 places. The Polaris brush guards were just short of no protection, as I felt like I could rip them off the quad with my hands. The bike's color is called Indy Red, I haven't really seen many pics of them before I bought it, but to me in person it is just as much orange as it is red. Maybe my color vision just sucks, but I like it nevertheless. One quick question, did everyone's 850 have a weird/bad smell when you first got it? I am assuming it is because it is new, and it is grime/oil whatever on the exhaust and engine. Because the oil and all that looks good.

Here are a couple pics, right after this, I stripped all the warning decals off, which I do with anything I own. And I am already thinking about exhaust and fuel management in the future.

Nice color! For the first couple hours I could smell the burning of the paint coming off the muffler. Once the machine gets heat cycled a couple times. Everthing is pretty much burnt off the brand new parts.

Once the break-in was finished. My dealer changed all my oils and fluids and did a once over on the quad. It runs even better now and idles smoother!

It'll take about 100 miles for the engine to really wake up, but there is a definite power difference once things loosen up a bit. Welcome to the forums!!
