Default Check for ECM recalls... FIRES!!

Over the Easter weekend here with the in-laws I heard a horror story involving a Polaris 500 scrambler that started on fire all by its self!! It was in an inclosed toy hauler with no air vents which was a good thing as it starved itslef out of air. Quad is distroyed and trailer is wrecked but it could have been a lot worse it had an air vent. Especially if he had it parked in his house garage with the spare gas jug sitting on the front rack like it usally is!

What year was the machine? Was the key in the ignition....was it on? To me it certainly sounds like a short but is the key was off I wouldn't think the ECM would have any power?

There was much talk about this a while ago. Cant remember what years but you could do a search and find some info. on it. There was a link in the thread with years and models.

Key was out and it was parked and strapped down in the trailer. I think he said it was a 2004 or 2006 I'm not sure. He bought it used a few years ago and was told all updates had been done. Well I guess not as he now finds out this ECM fire issue does happen and it freaked him out as this could kill people if parked in ones garage and starts at night or something. Just google it and you will find other many other cases. Not sure where Polaris is getting their ECM's made but sounds like they have had issues over the years.

it had to be an 06' as in 04 there wasnt any issue. there is a recall for a better ecm already out there for certain models and years. tell him to call a dealer if he hasnt to run the vin to see if it was under the recall.
