hence i would go w/ a 3,000 lb just to be safe. but you could use a s. block and double pulling power but when your trying to get stuck every 5 feet it takes alot of extra time that way.

Definitely go the 3000lb route, minimum. You have to keep in mind that the pull rating of a 3000lb winch is only actually 3000lbs when there is only one layer of cable on the winch drum. The more layers of cable on the winch drum, the lower the pulling power. Most manufacturers usually have a chart for each of their winches that shows the load pulling loss brought on by the increase in drum diameter from multiple cable layers.

Since most pulls never call for running your winch line out to where there's only one layer of cable on your drum, its best to make sure the winch you buy can pull your quad out at half capacity. I went with KFI's 3000lb winch and haven't had any trouble pulling my 500 out of some deep holes with straight line pulls.

I've got a 3500 on my little 425 Magnum and with a couple of ****** blocks it could probably rip the thing in two. On a single line pull it will drag it just about anywhere you want to drag it.

half the time i end up using straps, clevis', etc.
so just make sure your using accessories rated stronger than your winch.

I have used both the Warn RT25 and now have a Warn XT30. I love the rope vs wire and the wireless remote. I also love how the XT has a locking mechanism. I found some great deals on winches and will pass them along at theatvsuperstore.
