Default polaris big boss 400

ok im not familiar with atv's or any repairs to them. But i ran across this forum and maybe you guys can help me. My friend has a big boss 400 and as he said he needs the starter realigned and flywheel replaced and they flywheel cover installed. how complicated is this job and is there any special tools i would need? tips tricks and the such are greatly appreciated. any pictures you guys have that may be helpful too would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

It can get pretty complicated if you're not familiar with atv's.

I'd highly recommend he get a factory service manual before tearing into it.

Also, downloading a parts manual for Polaris on another vendor will be a big help too.

thanks for the tips. the issue is he was recently laid off. along with me so money is super tight but he needs this atv for his side jobs he's attempting to do. is there any online manuals or such thats free of charge? or someone here that can guide me step by step through the process? im confident i can tackle the job, but i have more experience in the automotive field. and i have a feeling it will be a bit different from working on my old kawasaki bayou 220 atv i had as a kid.

What year is the Big Boss? I think the 400 Big Boss was a 2 stroke engine. If it's really old it might be tough to get an online manual. You might try eBay.

its a 95 if i recall correctly

The online parts manuals only go back to 1998 from what I can see. You might try eBay.

no it goes back further, you are in the download a user manual section. the online parts fiche goes back further.
