Default CDI Smoking

Just got my 03 trailboss rebuilt. Trying to break it in and noticed the cdi was smoking. I took it off and looked at the back and there is a place that is starting to melt away. Anybody have a used one or know where I can find one at a decent price. They seem to be about 200 at best. I powerwashed the bike but tried to stay away from the electronics. Had the motor and plastic off and it was a good time to clean it up. Could this have caused the problem. Thanks TonyT

Used to take the plastic off my 325 and wash it off all the time and never had a problem like that. I do have a spare from a 325 and don't have the quad anymore.

I can only think of two problems. 1, where did I put it and 2, if it will fit.

Let me check and see on the fit part and I'll let you know.

The parts diagram I used to look it up shows 2 different numbers. But then on ebay, there's a guy that says he has one that fits 00-08.

Might want to call a dealer and see if they can verify if it will work. I'll look for it when I get home tonight. I have an idea of where it should be.

SO here is my question. Was this just a coincidence. All the wires are hooked up the same. The stator was on the motor I just rebuilt an 07. It was running when it blew the top out of it due to a vacuum leak and hi-rev condition. I don't want to put another cdi box in and burn it also if something else could have caused this.

Also I need a CDI box, probable from an 03-08 magnum or trailboss. Thanks TonyT
