Use recoil rope of the same diameter.

Recoil rope can stand up to the wear without much fray, where regular rope will weaken, break and fray much sooner. I pick up recoil rope for all my stuff from the local small engines repair shop, they have several diameters...if you have one local that's a good place to start, or online.

If its like my 500, the rope and pull handle are one piece and are changed together.

The rope for my Sportsman 500 from the dealer was $25, I just about **** when I had to buy it.

I agree with using recoil rope, got mine at a local hardware store. My 400 Sport had the rope made into the handle. I modified mine using a drill press, band saw and rvt. I can now change the rope out for a few bucks and it is still water proof.
